Overview

The trip

Italy gave the world opera, the violin and the Italian terms musicians still use, such as allegro and crescendo.

In Milan, students visit La Scala and its museum. In Cremona, home of Stradivari, where UNESCO recognises traditional violin craftsmanship, they visit the Museo del Violino and a luthier's workshop to see how a violin is made. In Venice, they explore La Fenice and the Baroque world of Vivaldi. The trip ends in Florence, where opera began around 1600.
