Subject

Global Perspectives study trips

Reading about other societies is not the same as meeting the people who live in them. These trips take students into six regions where different histories, faiths, political systems and economies shape everyday life. Students enter institutions, speak with the people who work in them, and compare what they find with home, building the informed, open-minded outlook global citizenship requires.

On the trip

What students explore

  • The Silk Road and a new capital

Samarkand and Bukhara, crossroads of the Silk Road, and Astana, a capital designed on a large scale since 1997.

  • Welfare, design and peace in Scandinavia

Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo: three small countries with outsized influence on welfare, sustainability and peace.

  • Faith and democracy in India and Turkey

The world's largest democracy and its many faiths, and a country where two continents and two empires meet.

  • History and change in China and Japan

Imperial Beijing to modern Shanghai, and Japan's tradition, technology and memory from Tokyo to Hiroshima.
