Overview
The trip
This trip offers not just a glimpse into Japan's artistic heritage but a hands-on experience of its traditions. It starts in Tokyo, the largest metropolis in the world.
Heading west to the Nagano, Gifu and Kyoto prefectures, students take up traditional crafts such as Nishijin-ori, the kimono fabric weaving technique with a history of more than 1,200 years. Students visit weaving workshops, meet the artisans dyeing the silk and weave their own kimono fabric to take home.
