Overview
This science and geography trip in Madagascar is an immersive learning experience across biology, ecology, anthropology and environmental science. Students gain first-hand insight into the island's biodiversity, its conservation challenges and its cultural heritage.
Madagascar is famous for its extraordinary biodiversity: about 90% of its wildlife is found nowhere else, having evolved over the long period since the island separated from mainland Africa.
Students observe lemurs, including the indri and sifakas, in Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, study the baobabs of the Avenue of the Baobabs, and visit the rainforest of Ranomafana National Park to see how ecotourism and reforestation are restoring forest lost to economic activity. For geography, they explore the Tsingy de Bemaraha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of towering limestone formations.
