Overview

The trip

Recognised as the largest public architecture festival in Asia, the Seoul Biennale tests ideas about city life in public.

Students attend the exhibitions and forum sessions, and explore the city the biennale is about: Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the Ewha campus and Bukchon's traditional hanok streets.

Learning outcomes

What students gain

Students will be able to:

  • Explain what an architecture biennale is and why cities host them
  • Analyse how a city uses public exhibitions to test ideas about living
  • Interpret a curatorial theme and describe how exhibits respond to it
