Overview

The trip

Singapore and Malaysia show two sides of sustainability: a dense island city that plans for every drop of water and every square metre of green, and a rainforest nation weighing conservation against palm oil.

In Singapore, students visit the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay, the Marina Barrage and the NEWater Visitor Centre, and walk the mangroves of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. In Kuala Lumpur, the KL Forest Eco Park and Putrajaya's constructed wetlands show how a city cleans water and keeps forest within it. In Kuching, the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre and Bako National Park show how orangutan protection is balanced against land used for palm oil.
